Water-Based Firefighting Systems

When a fire grows past what an extinguisher can handle, water is what puts it out. Hydrants, sprinklers, risers and the pumps behind them are the backbone of active fire protection in any large building, and the system of a fire brigade depends on the moment they arrive. Insurers and fire authorities treat it as the core of your building’s protection, and they inspect it closely.

It’s also the system most likely to look complete and still fail, because the part that matters, the water reaching the fire at the right pressure, is the part you can’t see from the corridor.

ZAP FIRE designs, installs and maintains water-based firefighting systems for commercial, industrial, healthcare and institutional buildings. We’re headquartered in Gurugram and we run projects for clients across India. We’ve done this since 2008, and we take a system from hydraulic design and drawings all the way through to the annual pump trials that prove it still works.

What a water-based system includes

A complete system is several connected parts, each sized to your building’s risk:

Fire hydrant system

Fire hydrant system

Internal and external (yard) hydrant networks with landing valves and hose connections, so there's water on every floor and around the site.

Automatic sprinkler system

Automatic sprinkler system

Heat-activated heads that put water straight onto a fire on their own, in wet, dry or deluge configurations to suit the space.

Wet riser and downcomer

Wet riser and downcomer

Vertical mains kept charged with water, or fed from a terrace tank, to deliver water fast on the upper floors of high-rise buildings.

Fire pump room

Fire pump room

A main electric pump for firefighting flow, a diesel standby pump for power failures, and a jockey pump to hold pipeline pressure.

Water storage

Water storage

Underground and overhead tanks sized to your risk, so your supply never hangs on municipal pressure alone.

Ring main and piping

Ring main and piping

Looped distribution that keeps water reaching every hydrant even when one section is shut down or damaged.

First-aid hose reels

First-aid hose reels

Wall-mounted reels on each floor, so occupants can tackle a small fire before the brigade arrives.

Foam systems

Foam systems

Bladder tanks and proportioners for flammable-liquid risks such as fuel stores and transformer yards.

Hydraulic design done properly

A water-based system is only as good as its weakest pressure point. Undersize the pipework or pick the wrong pump and the system looks finished but can’t push water where it’s needed on the worst day. We run full hydraulic and flow calculations to NBC, IS and NFPA, sizing pipes, pumps and tanks against your building’s height, floor area and hazard class. Every design lands as authority-ready drawings, not a guess off a product catalogue.

This is also where a Fire NOC is won or lost. The fire authority checks the calculations and the drawings before anything gets built, and a design that can’t prove its flow and pressure on paper won’t get approved. We get that maths right first, so the system that goes in is the one that passes inspection.

A hydrant line that looks fine on the wall is worthless if the pump can’t carry water to the top floor. ZAP FIRE pressure-tests and pump-trials the whole system, not just the parts you can see.

Services we provide

This is the most involved system we build, and we cover every stage of it with our own engineers and crews.

When did your fire pump last actually run under load? If you can’t say, that’s the problem. A ZAP FIRE AMC keeps your pumps trialled, your pressure verified and your records ready

Design and engineering
System layout, pipe routing and component selection, worked up as authority-ready drawings.
Hydraulic and flow calculations
Pipe, pump and tank sizing to NBC, IS and NFPA against your hazard class and building height.
Supply and procurement
Pumps, pipes, valves, hydrants, sprinkler heads and hose reels from approved makes.
Installation and execution
Pipework, pump room, hydrants and sprinklers fitted on schedule by trained crews.
Testing and commissioning
Flushing, pressure testing and pump trials, with full commissioning and test certificates you can hand straight to the authority.
Programming and integration
Pump control panels and pressure and flow switches integrated with your fire alarm.
Retrofitting and modernisation
Upgrading ageing pumps, valves and pipework without tearing out the whole system.
Preventive maintenance
Scheduled servicing of pumps, valves and pipework that keeps pressure where it should be.
Breakdown maintenance
Quick repair when a pump trips, a valve sticks or a line drops pressure, with priority response so the system isn't left unprotected.
Annual maintenance contracts (AMC)
Comprehensive and non-comprehensive AMCs with scheduled pump trials and logged records.
Hydrostatic pressure testing and flushing
Pressure testing and flushing of hydrant and sprinkler pipework on the required cycle.
Training and demonstrations
Hands-on training so your team can run the hydrants and the pump room under pressure.
Inspection and system health audits
Independent audits of pumps, pressure and coverage against IS 3844 and IS 15105.
Compliance and Fire NOC support
Drawings, test certificates and demonstration support for your provisional and final NOC.

Built to Indian fire codes

We engineer and install to the codes your building will be judged against:

We also build to TAC norms and to any state or local Chief Fire Officer requirements that apply to your project. Because we handle the design, the drawings, the testing and the demonstration together, your Fire NOC moves faster, with no gaps for a consultant, a vendor and a contractor to point at each other through.

Where we work

We design and maintain water-based firefighting systems for clients across India, including:

Residential and commercial high-rises

IT parks and corporate campuses

Hospitals and healthcare facilities

Hotels, malls and mixed-use developments

Factories and manufacturing plants

Warehouses and logistics hubs

Data centres

Educational and institutional campuses

Why building owners choose ZAP FIRE

Plenty of firms can lay pipe. Fewer can prove the system actually delivers water when it counts. Here’s what you get with us:

Engineering-led design

Real hydraulic calculations behind every system, not pipe sizes copied off a catalogue.

One team from design to AMC

The people who design and install your system are the people who maintain it.

A faster Fire NOC

Drawings, test certificates and demonstrations handled together, not chased across vendors.

In-house crews

Trained installers and pump technicians, not subcontracted labour you've never met.

ERP-tracked service

Every pump trial, pressure test and visit logged and ready to produce.

A partner since 2008

Turnkey water-based firefighting delivered across India.

Frequently asked questions

1
What's the difference between a hydrant, a sprinkler and a wet riser?
A hydrant system is manual: firefighters connect hoses to landing valves and direct the water. A sprinkler system is automatic, with heads that open on heat and spray water by themselves. A wet riser is the internal hydrant main in a high-rise, kept charged so water reaches every floor instantly.
2
Why does the pump room need more than one pump?
Redundancy is required by code. A duty pump handles normal demand; a standby pump cuts in if the duty pump fails; a jockey (pressure maintenance) pump compensates for minor leaks and prevents nuisance starts. Together they ensure water is available the moment it's needed.
3
Do you handle the hydraulic design and drawings for approval?
Yes. Our in-house engineers produce fully calculated hydraulic drawings stamped for authority submission. We manage the approval process end-to-end and update drawings if the authority requests revisions.
4
Can you maintain a system another contractor installed?
Absolutely. We carry out condition assessments, take over AMCs, and bring systems up to current code regardless of who installed them. We document every deficiency found and rectify them before issuing a fresh service certificate.
